The
Russian government has approved a programme aimed at promoting domestically produced
goods under the ‘Made in Russia’ brand until 2030, a decision inspired by
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s call for the initiative at a meeting of the
State Council Presidium on 25 September 2024.
The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade
will coordinate the programme as part of the ‘International Cooperation and
Export’ National Project, with the Russian Export Centre (REC, VEB.RF Group) taking
up primary responsibility for supporting and implementing the programme. The
Russian Export Centre’s implementation of the ‘Made in Russia’ programme in
conjunction with the Roscongress Foundation includes a system of voluntary
certification and brand support.
The programme has been approved by Prime
Minister Mikhail Mishustin and will contribute significantly to achieving the
‘Sustainable and Dynamic Economy’ National Development Goal and increasing non-resource,
non-energy exports by at least two-thirds over 2023 and agro-industrial exports
by at least one and a half times over 2021.
“As
the President has stated, we have succeeded in continuing to develop ties with
the foreign business community in spite of the objective difficulties that we
face and have even managed to venture further abroad, strengthening cooperation
with predictable, reliable partners who understand their national interests as
we do and value mutually beneficial trade, production, and cooperation,” Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.
Adviser to the President of the Russian
Federation Anton Kobyakov has noted continued growth in domestic
consumption. “Russia is experiencing growth in the defence industry,
construction, and the overall economy, testifying to its great potential in
spite of the difficulties that exist. A perfect example of this potential is
the way domestic production has moved forward across the board, which the ‘Made
in Russia’ Fair scheduled for May will make abundantly clear, especially in
regards to general consumer goods of a quality in no way inferior to the
highest international standards and already gaining recognition abroad. I am
confident that continued development of the supply economy, and consequently domestic
absorption, awaits us in the next few years,” Anton Kobyakov said.
“Nowadays,
large industrial enterprises and SMEs alike need foreign markets if they are to
grow, keep workers busy, improve product quality, and usher in technological upgrades.
The VEB.RF Group continues to support exporters, after
all, non-resource exports are essential to development,” VEB.RF Chairman Igor Shuvalov said.
One of the reasons the programme exists is
to build sustainable partnerships with foreign partners and to create the
infrastructure necessary to carry out international trade and technological
cooperation.
“The ‘Made
in Russia’ programme involves a wide range of activities aimed at promoting
Russian products in foreign markets under a single brand, at international
business missions and fairs, on the first multi-lingual website where foreign
buyers can find a catalogue of companies exporting their products and learn more
about them, and much more. I expect the
‘Made in Russia’ brand to become a symbol foreign buyers recognize as signifying
the highest level of quality, of something definitely worth buying,” State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the
Russian Federation Roman Chekushov said.
The ‘Made in Russia’ programme has already
met with success, and the Russian Export Centre has made good use of the
bird-shaped ‘Made in Russia’ tricolor logo at international exhibitions on
displays bringing together Russian companies. This is one of the most popular
support measures the REC Group has to offer. More than 5,000 companies have
presented their products to foreign partners at exhibitions around the world under
the ‘Made in Russia’
brand since 2019.
“We
have organized around 300 expositions and business missions around the world in
BRICS member states, the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa in a bid to
build trust in Russian products and manufacturers and make the ‘Made in Russia’
brand more recognizable and have also successfully organized four festivals in
different parts of China and one in the UAE. We’ve also organized major sporting events to promote Russian
goods, to take them international, and make new business connections. These
have included a hockey match as part of the Eastern Economic
Forum, basketball and badminton tournaments, curling competitions, and more. The
programme is now interacting with partners on a whole new level and convincing greater
numbers of foreign consumers to trust reliable, unique Russian goods. ‘Made in
Russia’ means goods and services of the highest quality,” REC Director
General Veronika Nikishina said.
The Russian Export Centre (REC, VEB.RF) is
a state institution that exists to support non-resource, non-energy exports. It
provides companies from different sectors seeking to enter international
markets with assistance, financial and non-financial, every step of the way as
part of the ‘International Cooperation and Export’ National Project. The REC
Group consists of the Russian Agency for Export Credit and Investment Insurance
(EXIAR), Roseximbank, and the Export School. Most REC Group services can be
accessed online on the ‘My Export’ national digital platform.
