As part of the business programme of the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’
International Arctic Forum, which will be held on 26–27 March in Murmansk, the
key results of the 8th International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Polar
Bear Universe: Effective Cooperation in the Arctic’ will be presented.
During the Forum thematic session, experts will discuss such topics as
preservation of Arctic biodiversity in the conditions of active socio-economic
development of the Polar region, implementation of environmental principles and
technological standards on the Northern Sea Route, monitoring of permafrost and
unique Arctic ecosystems, and tourism in the Far North. The Forum is organized
by the Roscongress Foundation with the support of the Government of the Russian
Federation.
“Development of the Arctic is one of
Russia’s key priorities. The region has great prospects in terms of its impact
on the global economy, logistics and energy sector. At the same time, the
active development of the Far North requires special attention to preserving
the unique ecosystem of the Polar region and supporting indigenous peoples.
Russia’s scientific achievements ensure economic growth with a responsible
attitude to this territory. An important part of the business programme of the
International Arctic Forum will be a discussion of research results that
contribute to the sustainable development of the northern latitudes,” emphasized Anton
Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive
Secretary of the Forum Organizing Committee.
The conference ‘Polar Bear Universe: Effective Cooperation in the
Arctic’ will be held on 18–21 March at venues in Moscow, Anadyr, St. Petersburg
and Yakutsk, with a teleconference organized for the Arctic regions. The
programme will include 25 sessions with the participation of representatives of
federal and regional authorities, business and science. The event will also
include a meeting of the Presidium of the Scientific and Expert Council of the
State Commission for Arctic Development and the 3rd All-Russian Arctic Youth
Forum. The conference is organized by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources
and Environment and the Government of Chukotka Autonomous District.
“In 2025, the conference will be held under the
auspices of the International Arctic Forum. The list of topics to be discussed
has been significantly expanded. In addition to the traditional discussion of
best practices in the study and conservation of polar bears and other Arctic
mammals, the programme will include issues of socio-economic development of the
Polar region, digitalization of scientific and technical activities in the
region, attracting young scientists to work in the Far North, development of
volunteer movements and other areas. I am confident that the results of the
expert discussion at the conference will complement the Forum programme and
contribute to the sustainable development of the Arctic,” noted Vladislav
Kuznetsov, Governor of Chukotka Autonomous District.
The 6th International Arctic Forum ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ is a
key platform for discussing topical issues of socio-economic development of the
Arctic territories, elaboration of multilateral mechanisms for joint disclosure
and effective development of the powerful resource potential of the Arctic
region.
