Born in 1965 in Leipzig. Studied at the “Hochschule für Musik Leipzig“ with J. Timm, W. Weber (violoncello) and G. Bosse (chamber music), “Konzertexamen“ (concert diploma) in 1991, chamber music studies with the Amadeus-Quartett in Cologne and London, with Hatto Beyerle in Hannover and Walter Levin in Lübeck. Founding member of the “Leipziger Streichquartett“, the “Ensemble Avantgarde”, solo cellist in the “Leipziger Kammerorchester” from 1991-2001. ARD-prize winner in 1991, Busch-prize, Siemens-music prize (always with the quartet), in 1991 Schneider-Schott-prize of the City of Mainz for his work with the “Ensemble Avantgarde”.
Concerts all over the world (more than 55 countries in Europe, South-East-Asia, Japan, North- and South America, Australia, Northern Africa, complete cycles of contemporary chamber music at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Gütersloh and Barcelona, constant cooperation with Hans Zender, Giora Feidman, Martin Lovett, Michael Sanderling, Christian Zacharias, Eliot Fisk, Karl Leister, Olaf Bär, Christiane Oelze, Alfred Bendel, Klaus-Maria Brandauer a.o. Thematic cycles referring to Schubert, Beethoven, personal festival “Pro Quatuor“ in cooperation with the Leipzig Gewandhaus; lectures about stylistic differentiation and musical rhetoric, quartet „in residence“ with the “Bachakademie” in Stuttgart in 1997 and 2004, at the “Auditorio Nacional Madrid” in 2001, as well as the “Theatre de Chatelet” in Paris in 2004.
Numerous productions for radio- and TV-broadcasting stations in various countries, more than 55 CDs comprising a repertoire from Mozart to Blacher, among others complete recordings of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Paul Dessau, Anton Webern, Theodor Adorno, Hanns Eisler, Kurt Weill, John Cage a. o. First recording of all string quartets by Franz Schubert, complete recording of the quartets of the Second Viennese School.
Since 1991 exclusive agreement with MDG, international record prizes (Echo Klassik 5 times, Indie Award 99 and 2000, Diapason d’Or, Premios CD Compact, Luister, Grammophone Editors Choice etc.) in Germany, France, England, Spain, the USA, Japan, Holland (for Brahms, Schubert, Brown, Schoenberg, Mozart, Beethoven und Cage).
From 1992 to 1996 assistant at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig”, in 1996 German first performance of the „Konzert zu dritt“ by Alfred Schnittke in the Gewandhaus Leipzig, idea of the “Internationale-Beethoven-Zyklus”, which connected more than 15 cities by means of 5 other quartets (Hagen, Carmina, Keller, Vogler, Mosaique) in 1996 and 1997, since 1996 he teaches violoncello and chamber music at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater ´Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy´ Leipzig”. Since 2006 member of Trio Ex Aequo.
International master classes in South America, Japan, the USA and Europe. Moosdorf plays a cello by Andreas Guarnerius, Cremona 1697. Member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra on invitation of Maestro Abbado.
