The Roscongress Foundation is a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of nationwide and international conventions; exhibitions; and business, public, youth, sporting, and cultural events. It was established in pursuance of a decision by the President of the Russian Federation.

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of facilitating the development of Russia’s economic potential, promoting its national interests, and strengthening the country’s image. One of the roles of the Foundation is to comprehensively evaluate, analyse, and cover issues on the Russian and global economic agendas. It also offers administrative services, provides promotional support for business projects and attracting investment, helps foster social entrepreneurship and charitable initiatives.

Each year, the Foundation’s events draw participants from 209 countries and territories, with more than 15,000 media representatives working on-site at Roscongress’ various venues. The Foundation benefits from analytical and professional expertise provided by 5,000 people working in Russia and abroad.

The Foundation works alongside various UN departments and other international organizations, and is building multi-format cooperation with 212 economic partners, including industrialists’ and entrepreneurs’ unions, financial, trade, and business associations from 86 countries worldwide, and 293 Russian public organizations, federal and regional executive and legislative bodies of the Russian Federation.

Biography
Aleksander Makarov – geomorphologist, doctor of geographical sciences, professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

PhD and doctoral theses are devoted to the variability of the Arctic environment over the past ten thousand years. Alexander Makarov's research interests include the paleogeography of the earth's polar regions in the Holocene, as well as the Sea Level variability.

In 2000 entered St. Petersburg State University on faculty of geography and geoecology, Department of geomorphology. In June 2005 he joined the Department of geography of the polar states of AANII and continued his active expedition and research work. In 2003-2009, annually participated in the organization and conduct of international Russian-German expeditions to The Lena Delta, and from 2010 to 2015 led these expeditions. In 2009, on the basis of the collected materials he defended his PhD thesis on the specialty "Geomorphology and evolutionary geography" on " Laptev Sea Level Fluctuations as a Factor in the Formation of The Lena Delta in the Holocene", in 2017 – doctoral thesis on "Fluctuations of Level of the Arctic Seas in the Holocene". Participated in the creation of a new modern research station on the island Samoilovsky. In 2016, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Director of Federal State Budgetary Institution AANII, after which headed the work on the creation of The Russian scientific center on Svalbard archipelago. Since September, 2017 holds a post of the Director of the Arctic and Antarctic research Institute of Roshydromet.
