Have Things Changed for Good? Rebooting the Content Market
The main thing we are betting on is a significant number of originals [exclusive content. – Ed.]. If there were 14 offerings in 2021, this year there will be almost twice as many. Next year we plan to release at least two premieres a month. In general, we are aiming for four, and I hope we will have enough money for it. Losing advertising revenue, on which all the media companies subsist, is a very serious factor at the moment. We are forming a large library and are working in collaboration with our colleagues

Have Things Changed for Good? Rebooting the Content Market
The most important thing, what I consider the know-how of our holding is, if you will, a wheel of Saṃsāra: when our production comes up with content, it appears on platforms, it appears on television. From television, it migrates to the platforms, and from the platforms it migrates to television – the most popular programmes and shows. Accordingly, we include maximum monetization, quick amortization, and an emphasis on our own content

Information Warfare: National Media Sovereignty Protection
Over the last three months, the attacks have been most diverse, DDos-attacks are made virtually every day against all media resources at the federal level. All this is teaching a lesson. Conclusions have been drawn and it seems to me that we need to transfer from a defensive position, waiting for attacks, to being proactive. Specialists need to be engaged. The information sphere today is such that a whole consortium is required of companies specializing in different aspects of information and cyber security combining their efforts

Information Warfare: National Media Sovereignty Protection
It seems to me that creation of a computer attack warning centre would make it possible to exchange specific information securely. To provide details about what happened and how – essentially, to lay one’s cards on the table, so specialists should discuss this and draw common conclusions. And if the specialists assess that we are at a stage of cyber-hooliganism, we need to prepare, the gauntlet has been thrown down and the Rutube incident requires an industry-wide response, which is undoubtedly creation of such a centre. And the state authorities must combine their efforts

Information Warfare: National Media Sovereignty Protection
Even on a global scale, only 77% of companies have a basic level of information security. So 23% of companies, almost a quarter, are not protected at all. And this applies to Russian companies, too. […] About 2% of the world’s top-managers use primitive passwords that even an amateur can find with ease

Some companies, like Netflix, have simply left, demonstrating their attitude toward users. But for our companies, it is question of opportunities because the Netflix audience has smoothly transferred to our paid services. Our Premier online cinema is obviously benefiting, since we have received a sufficient inflow of paid subscribers and users of our service. Speaking of user content, there are sufficient resources in the country VKontakte and our Rutube, our Yappi, which is growing exponentially. Back in January, Rutube had a monthly audience of 11 million users, while today’s figure is over 25 million

International Business and Global Values: Risks and Opportunities for Creative Industries in the Next Stage of Development
Naturally, creative industry is a term with a clear definition of what it is. However, I think the word ‘creative’ is much bigger than that. An industry cannot be competitive unless it is creative. I believe that people residing in this country have a huge competitive advantage. Take cultural code and think some 200 years ago, any more or less cultural person in the world would know Tolstoy, Chekhov, and Dostoyevsky. It is telling that Netflix, being a transnational corporation, contracted Gazprom-Media production for nothing else but Anna Karenina, a world-famous character and tragic love story

Maintaining a Single Digital Landscape in the Face of a Struggle for Digital Sovereignty
The stick ought to be for the tech platforms and the carrot for our platforms and for our users. Accordingly, a huge number of options could be considered here. For example, preferences. Maybe it’s not worth taxing the users who post their content and maintain their pages on our platforms for a long enough period. Conversely, if we are talking about a stick for their platforms. […] Fines need to be increased. In addition, the situation with slowing down traffic has proven itself quite well,

Our platforms should definitely be an alternative to theirs. We need to make them trendy and convenient. […] All foreign platforms have to have legal representation, and not marketing, as it is now. [...] The law on retaliatory measures against the censoring of Russian information resources should be the same for everyone. I welcome the introduction of this law

Self-Regulation vs. State Control. How to Stimulate the Consumption of Legal Content?
We have 540 final decisions of the Moscow City Court on permanent blocking of pirates. Based on these decisions, 2,300 pirated sites have been blocked forever. Their total audience is over 100 million people, which exceeds the Runet audience

How Can We Protect Privacy in the Internet of Things Era?
It is clear what we should do here; in medicine there is a concept of ‘informed consent’. A person gives their consent and signs a document stating that a certain manipulation can be carried out. And then it is carried out. We need a dialogue between the state, its citizens and the society based on the principle of user’s informed consent that their data can be used, or they can likewise refuse it and block the access to their data. This principle of informed consent is fundamental, and we need to discuss it

Challenges and Opportunities in Delivering Digital Infrastructure
The blocking is an extreme case of interaction between the state and the company that has violated the legislation. Technically it is a process, not a one-step action. At present, Roskomnadzor is a technical executor of this decision. The protocol used by Telegram is obvious, we can predict what actions will be taken to bypass the blocking. We have our own plan of action and we are going to see it through
