Dr. Jean Koh is the President of the Korea Mobile Internet Business Association, and a Commissioner of several Governmental Committees related convergence among industries via ICT.
He founded Varo Vision (1994), and he led Korean video compression technology industry. Varo Vision developed the first commercial VOD mobile phone with Samsung Electronics (2001), and built mobile VOD service platform with SK Telecom, which enabled the first commercial mobile VOD service in Korea (2003). He served as a CEO & CTO of Galaxia Communications, a company in electronic payment and O2O business (2009~2017).
As a president of Korea Mobile Internet Business Association (MOIBA), Dr. Koh has contributed to establishing eco-system of Korean mobile industry by strengthening global competitiveness of mobile contents for smart devices, supporting win-win partnership among large incorporations and SMEs, and protecting consumers from illegal and harmful contents.
With his experiences and expertise on Korean ICT sector, Dr. Koh participated in the High Technology and Convergence Research Experts Committee (2013~2014) and chaired the ICT Convergence Research Experts Committee (2015~2016) in National Research Council of Science and Technology. He has been working for the Convergence Research Committee of government-funded research institutes (2014~).
Since 2017 Dr. Koh has been chairing the New Growth Special Committee under the current ruling party, The Minju (Democratic Party) and the sub-committee on Industry and Economy Innovation of the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, while his co-representation of the Innovative Economy Forum in Korean National Assembly since 2018.
He received his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from the Seoul National University, Republic of Korea in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the Syracuse University, New York, United States in 1994.
