Vilfand Roman Mendelevich - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Honored Meteorologist of the Russian Federation, Scientific Director of the FSBI "Hydrometeorological Center of Russia".
Born in 1948 in Kiev.
In 1971 he graduated from the Department of Meteorology and Climatology at the Faculty of Geography of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
From February 1973 to the present, he has been working at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia (until 1992, the USSR Hydrometeorological Center) as an engineer, senior engineer, junior researcher, senior researcher, head of laboratory, deputy director, since 2001 – director, June 2018 - Scientific Director.
Member of the Academic Council of the Russian Geographical Society.
Member of the Board and the Scientific and Technical Council of Roshydromet, Head of the Research Direction "Methods, Models and Technologies of Hydrometeorological Calculations and Forecasts" – “Proceedings of the Hydrometeorological Research Center of the Russian Federation”), since 2015 included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia.
Over 35 years R.M. Vilfand delivers a course of lectures on the methods of long-term weather forecasts at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, heads the Scientific Council of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia and is a member of dissertation councils at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
Author and co-author of more than 190 scientific papers.
