The Roscongress Foundation is a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of international conventions; exhibitions; and business, public, sporting, and cultural events. It was established in pursuance of a decision by the President of the Russian Federation.

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of facilitating the development of Russia’s economic potential, promoting its national interests, and strengthening the country’s image. One of the roles of the Foundation is to comprehensively evaluate, analyse, and cover issues on the Russian and global economic agendas. It also offers administrative services, provides promotional support for business projects and attracting investment, and helps foster social entrepreneurship and charitable initiatives.

Each year, the Foundation’s events draw participants from 208 countries and territories, with more than 15,000 media representatives working on-site at Roscongress’ various venues. The Foundation benefits from analytical and professional expertise provided by 5000 people working in Russia and abroad. In addition, it works in close cooperation with 160 economic partners; industrialists’ and entrepreneurs’ unions; and financial, trade, and business associations from 75 countries worldwide.

Dmitry Sokolov is a researcher and an energy analyst who has worked with leading energy related think-tanks in Russia, Korea and Japan.

From 2016: He currently supervises the Global Gas Outlook, a flagship publication of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). It is the only report worldwide focusing solely on natural gas, providing long-term projections and insights into the energy market.

2011-2015: Mr.Sokolov has been a researcher of the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC). His contributions include the development of the High Gas Scenario in the released APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook; as well as chapters named Coal Supply, Natural Gas Supply, Electricity, Russian Federation and Korea.

2006-2010: As a Researcher of the Korea Energy Economics Institute, Mr. Sokolov has developed scenarios of energy cooperation in Northeast Asia.

He is originally from Russia (Irkutsk), where he has spent years as a scientist at Melentiev Energy Systems Institute of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ESI SB RAS).

Mr. Sokolov holds a Master’s degree in International Economy from Irkutsk State Economic Academy (1999) and a postgraduate in Energy Systems and Complexes from ESI SB RAS (2002). He speaks English and Japanese fluently.
