Academic degree: Prof., Ph.D. in Economics.
Started his career as a chief agronomist of the collective farm
in the village of Rakitnoye (Belgorod region), and then as the director of the farm. Later on he worked in the district, regional and federal governmental organs including as he deputy chairman of Belgorod regional executive committee, deputy chief of crop production department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Russian Federation.
In October 1993 - appointed (and in December 1995 and in May 1999 - elected the head of the Administration of Belgorod region. From 1996 to 2001 - a member of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. He also worked as Chairman of the Committee of the Council
of Federation on Agrarian Policy.
From 2003- elected Governor of Belgorod region.
E. Savchenko has many government awards, the awards of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Married, has two daughters.
