The Future of Industries: Where Are We Ahead, Where Are We Behind, and Why?
The automotive industry is generally one of the driving industries of the economy, it is a big multiplier for related industrial sectors. This includes the chemical industry, microelectronics, radio electronics, and other areas. <...> Warships are our competencies that no one has taken away from us, and we keep improving and dominating the market. As for oil tankers and gas carriers, we did not have this competence, but the competence for their production is currently being formed in Russia. <...> As for high-tech industries such as shipbuilding, the Zvezda shipyard will increase metal processing to half a million tons with the construction of a separate metallurgical complex, which will ensure the production of rolled products not only for Zvezda, but also other projects in the Far East

The Future of Industries: Where Are We Ahead, Where Are We Behind, and Why?
The tight spot of transport accessibility is the Eastern Polygon. The good news is that colleagues [Joint Stock Company Russian Railways – ed.] are actively expanding it. So the volume of shipments increases every year, and we will gradually achieve the targeted volume

The Future of Industries: Where Are We Ahead, Where Are We Behind, and Why?
The Far East is currently becoming a priority region not only in terms of basic industries and competencies but also in terms of high-tech industries. Its main advantage is transport accessibility for exporting goods to most preferred today markets. We are moving from the West to the East, and the Far East is becoming one of the most important arteries for the export of our goods

The Future of Industries: Where Are We Ahead, Where Are We Behind, and Why?
Problems and challenges provide opportunities for development. When we talk about what is happening to industries, we take it [sanctions imposed by the EU on Russia – ed.] as an opportunity, not as a problem. <...> Understanding the challenges we are facing today (export of a wide range of goods in the high-tech sector and basic industries for Russian enterprises is banned) is an opportunity to develop our competencies and technologies

Recently we decided to update our agreement that provides for placing our logistics capacities in Egypt, including assembly facilities, as well as facilities that manufacture goods that are of interest to other countries as well. As it was noted earlier, Egypt is the gateway to North Africa. We hope… to supply our goods with added value to Northern Africa markets

We need to actively use the rouble–pound combination for mutual settlement. Turnover volumes allow us to do that. We base this judgement on the fact that our colleagues from central banks, government agencies and business cooperate with each other closely. We use our own currencies, when trading with other friendly countries – China, India, and the Arab Emirates. I am confident that we can use this cooperation format with Egypt

The agreement [on free trade between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union, – Ed.] is at the final stage. We hope this document is signed as soon as the preparation is over. It will give a bigger impetus to the trade, expand the product mix and lower the barriers among our countries – parties to this agreement

If we look at last year’s numbers [on turnover, – Ed.], it’s USD 4.7 bln, which 5% more than the year before. The first quarter of this year gained additional 20% year-over-year, while the biggest segment of our export is non-commodity and non-energy. It is mostly machine building and grain supply. This is our biggest market

Resources in the Far East: From Exploration to Integrated Development
The Mineral Production Tax has already been raised 3.5 times and this is wholesale across all industries. Poor deposits are not taken into account in the calculations. We really need to find a compromise for the future so that poor deposits can have certain preferences, to be diversified

World EXPOs: International Cooperation as a Driver for Sustainable Global Development
Russia and, in particular, the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, play a very important role in international cooperation, and I hope it will continue to do so in the future. <...> The World Fairs are very important. <...> It is a great opportunity to demonstrate not only our cooperation but also our responsibility. An exhibition is an opportunity to show that we are a part of the world which has soft power. We are also responsible for the state of the world. We are aware of that responsibility. For sustainable development. And we do not do it for the Europeans or the world, but we do it for ourselves, for our children and grandchildren, to live in a world where we are responsible for its condition

World EXPOs: International Cooperation as a Driver for Sustainable Global Development
The [EXPO, – Ed.] could be just the right platform to reduce the political aspect of the event. <...> In the global race for political ambition, we have lost much of our common sense – those who create geopolitical pressure against us have to create anti-pressure. But this always comes with discomfort both for our country and for those who create this pressure, above all for those people who live in these countries, who are trying to build a business with our country

The world has changed, much like our today’s and tomorrow’s perceptions of what we will have to go through. <…> It taught us that we have to think about biological safety in the future. If it is not COVID-19 or, God forbid, something similar appears, we need to be scientifically, technically, technologically, and industrially prepared to battle any type of biological activity in nature

An Economy of Unlimited Resources
Thermal recycling is efficient. The current technologies ensure zero emissions. [...] They leave behind carbon and dust. This is the minimum volume of waste that is further used in contrast to sorting. All technologies must be preserved. Depending on the market conditions, a region must decide which technology to choose

We support EPR [extended producer responsibility]. The amount of the fee [for garbage collection] should be spent on building waste processing enterprises. […] There are the separate concepts of incineration and sorting. Today, if we take the most modern equipment that sorts garbage, half of it remains in the dumps. What should we do about that? Some [companies] use it for filling and underlying road surfaces, but in some places, it can’t be used due to logistics. And all this will build up

Collaboration in Industry: Potential Areas of Growth
Systematic support from the state is one of the key conditions for the success of any business projects abroad. And, in this regard, we have developed a whole complex of measures. We have set the goal of identifying promising niches and areas of cooperation and assisting companies in establishing business ties with trade missions of the Russian Federation. There are four of them on the African continent: in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa […]. Our trade missions around the world work in close cooperation with the Russian Export Center, which administers non-financial and financial mechanisms to support the export of our products. They could significantly reduce the cost of Russian machinery and equipment. In addition, Roseximbank and EXIAR, a member of the REC Group, provide businesses with access to borrowed financial resources on favourable terms

Collaboration in Industry: Potential Areas of Growth
I would single out five main strategic areas in which our companies have already begun building cooperation with our African colleagues. Above all, this involves the modernization of the existing industrial infrastructure, and in this regard, projects are being implemented to supply the latest Russian equipment for metallurgical and mining enterprises. The next area is the development of the transport and logistics system, including the supply of rolling stock for railways, airplanes, and helicopters of various classes and purposes, as well as security and control systems for these modes of transport. The third pillar for industrial cooperation is involvement in the creation of energy infrastructure, oil, gas, and generating capacities, including hydro and nuclear energy, as well as promising projects in renewable energy sources. Another cross-sectoral area incorporates the entire perimeter of food security issues […]. And, finally, we believe there are great prospects for our medical and pharmaceutical industries to take part in the technological development of the healthcare system and drug supply for all countries of the continent

Making Environmental Preservation an Economic Asset
The main task is to help economy grow beyond global indices. What is needed for that? To do this, we need to create conditions, develop our own industry, which will ensure growth. <…> Without conditions for industry performance, the budget will get no taxes or incomes that can later be used to develop social sectors of the economy. Russia needs to develop deep processing by building pulp and paper mills, whereas we need different types of pulp for different sectors of consumption. We discussed how many (mills – Editor’s note.) are needed. We came to the conclusion that there should be at least 3 – 6 maximum – and optimally 4 in the next 5 years, in order to cover the need and provide for deeper processing. But in addition to building pulp and paper mills, we must not forget about using recyclables, meaning waste paper. Over the past 10 years, this (pulp and paper – Editor’s note) industry has seen<...> about 200 billion roubles of investment
