The Roscongress Foundation is a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of international conventions; exhibitions; and business, public, sporting, and cultural events. It was established in pursuance of a decision by the President of the Russian Federation.

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of facilitating the development of Russia’s economic potential, promoting its national interests, and strengthening the country’s image. One of the roles of the Foundation is to comprehensively evaluate, analyse, and cover issues on the Russian and global economic agendas. It also offers administrative services, provides promotional support for business projects and attracting investment, and helps foster social entrepreneurship and charitable initiatives.

Each year, the Foundation’s events draw participants from 208 countries and territories, with more than 15,000 media representatives working on-site at Roscongress’ various venues. The Foundation benefits from analytical and professional expertise provided by 5000 people working in Russia and abroad. In addition, it works in close cooperation with 133 economic partners; industrialists’ and entrepreneurs’ unions; and financial, trade, and business associations from 70 countries worldwide.

Biography
Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maksim Sokolov.
Born in Leningrad on September 29, 1968.
Completed his national service in the army in 1987–1989.
Graduated from St. Petersburg State University Faculty of Economics in 1991. He also studied at the university’s Faculty of Law from 1989 to 1991.
From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Sokolov taught at the St. Petersburg State University Faculty of Economics.
From 1992–1999, he was General Director of ROSSI Concern.
From 1999 to 2004, Mr. Sokolov was General Director of Korporatsia C.
From 2004 to 2009, he served as Chairman of the Committee for Investment and Strategic Projects of St. Petersburg.
In 2009, Mr. Sokolov became a member of the Government of St. Petersburg: Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade.
On December 4, 2009, he was named Director of the Department of Industry and Infrastructure of the Government of the Russian Federation.
On 21 May, 2012, Mr. Sokolov was appointed Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation by Presidential Executive Order No. 660.
Maksim Sokolov has been awarded the Ribbon of the Order «For Merit to the Fatherland» 2nd class and the Governor of St. Petersburg Badge «For the Humanization of the St. Petersburg school».
He has three sons.
