The Roscongress Foundation is a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of nationwide and international conventions; exhibitions; and business, public, youth, sporting, and cultural events. It was established in pursuance of a decision by the President of the Russian Federation.

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of facilitating the development of Russia’s economic potential, promoting its national interests, and strengthening the country’s image. One of the roles of the Foundation is to comprehensively evaluate, analyse, and cover issues on the Russian and global economic agendas. It also offers administrative services, provides promotional support for business projects and attracting investment, helps foster social entrepreneurship and charitable initiatives.

Each year, the Foundation’s events draw participants from 208 countries and territories, with more than 15,000 media representatives working on-site at Roscongress’ various venues. The Foundation benefits from analytical and professional expertise provided by 5,000 people working in Russia and abroad.

The Foundation works alongside various UN departments and other international organizations, and is building multi-format cooperation with 173 economic partners, including industrialists’ and entrepreneurs’ unions, financial, trade, and business associations from 78 countries worldwide, and 188 Russian public organizations, federal and legislative agencies, and federal subjects.

Biography
Alexander Makarov was born on 30 September 1950 in Moscow. In 1973 he graduated from the Physics Department of M.V. Lomonosov MSU. In 1977 he defended his thesis for the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences degree (PhD), and in 1995 defended the thesis for Doctor of Biological Sciences degree (DSc). In 2003 Alexander Makarov was elected Corresponding member, and in 2008 Full member of the RAS. Since 2004 he is Director of EIMB RAS and Professor of MIPT. Alexander Makarov is member of the Presidium of the Council under President of the Russian Federation for Science and Education. He also sits on Scientific Coordination Council of FASO Russia, is deputy chairman of the Scientific Council of the Molecular and Cell Biology Program of the Presidium of the RAS, and member of the Council of Scientific Advisers of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of the United Nations (Italy). Alexander Makarov is Editor-in-chief of the journal Molecular Biology (Mosc.), and member of editorial boards of Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Molecular Diagnostics, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Crystallography (Mosc.), Acta Naturae, Biophysics (Mosc.). Alexander Makarov was awarded the Order of Honor, Order of Alexander Nevsky, and Legion of Honor. Research interests: physical chemistry of proteins, protein engineering, molecular mechanisms of protein stability, signal transduction in biological systems in norm and disease, antitumor / antiviral proteins, nanobiotechnology, molecular mechanism of Alzheimer's disease. Alexander Makarov is author of over 200 papers in peer reviewed journals (Web of Science)
