Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
Communities don’t have a commercial status. They are non-commercial organizations, and they cannot play a role in agricultural production. But what’s stopping a community or an individual member of said community from establishing a legal entity? They could establish some form of commercial enterprise. And let it apply for all the financial incentives which the government offers livestock farmers and so on. We need to take these pathways. We can’t just trade on statuses all the time

Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
National government policy is aimed specifically at preserving cultures and languages. If we want to make inroads financially while doing this, we must be careful. Take the situation in America, for example, where native Americans opened casinos on their reservations. It did not lead to anything good. You had drunkenness everywhere, idleness, and a loss of any kind of cultural identity. That’s why it’s sometimes best not to look at one’s status as indigenous peoples. If we want to improve things financially and economically, and make a profit, we should simply establish regular enterprises, as any citizen of our country might do. These can then benefit from the fairly plentiful incentives and preferences which are offered by our country

Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
The situation may differ from one region to the next. That’s why the Federal Agency for Fisheries has the role of unifying these approaches and developing a system which all regions can adhere to. That way, there will be order

Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
What I think is an important decision has been taken in relation to creating a list of people belonging to indigenous groups. Thanks to the work done by the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, this system has started to operate via multifunctional service centres. Of course, we are still at the initial stage, and adjustments continue to be made. Still, this is an important step, because it allows us to more comprehensively guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples, and primarily provide targeted support. We are aware that there are shortcomings and disruptions as far as this is concerned. But the fact that a list – a register – will be maintained is, I am sure, something which will enable us to provide targeted support

Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
A lot of products offered by indigenous peoples are very much in demand. They are popular brands with people, and relate to reindeer herding, fishing, hunting, and gathering. All of these things are in demand at the moment. And it is very much a trend that can be seen throughout the world. This form of economic activity needs to be integrated in regional economies – and the national economy – more comprehensively. We need to increase profitability, and create new opportunities to sell products

Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
According to data from the last two censuses, the population of indigenous peoples is growing. I consider this to be the main thing. We are not losing people. On the contrary, we are keeping people, and getting more of them

Indigenous Lives: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Standard of Living
Our situation looks very good compared to other countries. We are not the only nation which is home to indigenous peoples. However, in my opinion, and in the opinion of many foreign experts, the legislative and regulatory framework in Russia – and everything that is being done here for indigenous peoples – greatly outstrips that in other countries

The 19th ‘My Country – My Russia’ Award Ceremony
The slogan of the ‘New World – New Opportunities’ economic forum perfectly correlates with the spirit of the ‘My Country – My Russia’ contest, which annually brings together tens of thousands of caring, active, and enterprising participants, teachers, and experts. Of course, all the transformations being pursued by the Russian leadership and our national leader Vladimir Putin focus primarily on improving the quality of life and the safety of citizens. In this process, brave and talented young people, who are united by a desire to be useful to their country, play the most active and prominent role. Over the past years, the contestants have implemented many public beneficial initiatives for the socioeconomic and spatial development of Russian territories, including initiatives that meet the objectives of national projects
