The Wine Industry: A Scientific Renaissance
President Putin gave specific instructions to Kurchatov Institute and the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – ‘On the creation of the national genetic database’. The law is being reviewed, because we have created the prototype of this database. It is very much functioning. <…> It has three levels. The first level is the open general level of fundamental importance. Its second level is limited access: it is a secret technology, like important grapes and new crops.  The third level is a classified database of criminal genetic information and special services. We have created a prototype of such a database, which we have presented to our country’s leadership. <…> Now every deciphered genome must be deposited. In order to organize it, this database needs to have the status of a state information resource, which need to be stipulated by a law. This law should be passed in the near future, which means that every organization that deciphers a genome will need to deposit it in the database

The Wine Industry: A Scientific Renaissance
It has become much easier to destroy us by biological or cyber means. You need to understand this. The phones we are holding can be easily cut off. There is high probability that all phones will get cut off in the near future. Cars: the more expensive a car is, the more of a gadget it is. Trains and turbines at power plants can be easily cut off, if they are foreign made. This is what a cyber war and a cyber threat are

Socio-humanitarian Aspects of Digitalization
Social networks create a venue where people can socialize and show off what they want to, but for some reason the things they choose to show off aren’t very nice. They gather people of their own kind around them. I would say that a certain percentage of the people who start living on social media end up becoming marginalized

Big Challenges and New Partnerships: How to Unite Science and Society
There is a revolutionary process of convergence and the alignment of disciplines. This is the natural logic for the development of science. It’s important, but it cannot formulate the tasks of science. You have a business. It can pose a particular question, but it can’t form a global request. [...] The main customer is the state, but it should not be a monopoly customer. It should be the conductor and harmonizer of these processes

Big Challenges and New Partnerships: How to Unite Science and Society
The end product of tomorrow’s product line is sublimated knowledge [...] We are transitioning to a society that will sublimate scientific knowledge. Hence the conclusion: we need to drastically raise the level of society in terms of scientific literacy

Mega Science Infrastructure to Create the Industry of the Future
Mega Science involves large complex and expensive facilities. Many countries view them as an important element that helps them demonstrate their technological development and ambitions. Many countries that strive for technological development immediately go for a Mega Science facility. It shows that this country is on the path of technological development and can afford to maintain it

Responsible Development vs. Sustainable Consumption: Nature and Technology
NBIC-convergent technologies are the first stage in the establishment of convergent technologies as a basis for creating nature-like technologies. They are to reverse our technological structure back to the natural resource cycle

Responsible Development vs. Sustainable Consumption: Nature and Technology
The technological structure formed after [World War II, – Ed.]. The yearning people dilated production: buy–use–throwaway–buy-new. The extermination of resources as it is. This system was to serve the ‘golden billion’, and the Earth’s resources would have been enough for an infinitely long period. Right before our eyes, China and India changed bicycles for cars. Massive extermination of resources onset when the ‘golden billion’ system spread to the entire population of the Earth

Nature-Like Technologies to Meet the Needs of the Arctic
Energy is the key for exploration. But energy [in the Arctic – Ed.] is very specific. There is no consumer for a major power generation. It should be distributed in low power capacities

Nature-Like Technologies: Responding to Major Challenges
In the middle of the XIX century most of the population was rural and worked to serve a small industrial part. The ways of production in agriculture required a large number of people. Some time ago, 2% of the rural population provided for everyone else. They were pushed out of agriculture into industry. Today the exact same thing is happening in the industry that happened in agriculture a hundred years ago —people are no longer necessary

The Technological Breakthrough and Spatial Development of the Country
Rapid aggravation of the general situation makes us change and think outside the box <…> In this sense, it spurs to our ability to think creatively, which is our competitive advantage <…> A breakthrough is a push for anything else. It is related to super- and cross-disciplinary aspects as well as convergence, which implies <…> significant transformation in science and education. The country that grasps and implements this idea first, will win the whole game
