Higher Education in the East: A New Quality of Teaching
We solve the problem of trust [between business, universities and applicants. – Ed.] through the tool of the advanced engineering school. <…> Today, the head of the advanced engineering school… is a person with a business background

Higher Education in the East: A New Quality of Teaching
There is a problem of trust. Trust of businesses in the university, of applicants in the university, of employers' trust in graduates. We clearly do not have enough trust

Science and the Public: New Interaction Models
Awareness is very important. Awareness can only come out when you have tried it with your own hands. What do you need for that? In my opinion, apart from money that you will earn later in life, apart from comfortable infrastructure, a challenge is still needed. Today’s young people need a challenge to solve it, to find answers to the challenges that face the world of science and the problems of society. The young generation now is just like that: they have an idea

Science and the Public: New Interaction Models
In my opinion, the main task now is not to fight the exodus. We need to make the Far East, Primorye Territory, and any region of the Far East attractive to young people... We have managed to make it so that one in three applicants is someone who has come from central Russia, from the Urals, and from other parts of the world

Science and the Public: New Interaction Models
The main thing in the Far East is people. When we say that science is a tool to make people's lives better, so that technical solutions help us overcome those problems that arise in everyday life more easily, it must be clear. It needs to be clear why people need it. It seems to me that the link between the tasks of developing the Far East and developing science in the Far East are perfectly harmonious with each other

Science and the Public: New Interaction Models
The programmes may seem small, and the initiatives are private, but they all work towards solving one global problem: making science accessible to people. And it does not matter where you were born – in a megalopolis or a small village somewhere in the Urals. To make it as accessible and understandable to people as possible. To introduce this experience to as many people as possible. It seems to me that without such formats we will not be able to get a lot of young people involved in this process

Eastern Knowledge: Asian Vector of Education
I don’t actually see anything wrong with the fact that our graduates go somewhere to study. The question is whether they want to come back. Come back, put their efforts towards achieving something better for their country. Come back perhaps, after receiving additional competencies that we do not have here. You have to work on yourself first. If we get better, our people will come back even if they left first

Eastern Knowledge: Asian Vector of Education
It is difficult to create many programmes, because each programme means teachers, it means increasing the personnel. We are constantly thinking about how to minimize costs, this is a normal operating activity. And a task like this and its high-quality execution increases the costs of the university. One needs a balance in this. And I think the answer to this question is creating hubs and distribute competencies. If there are strong competencies in one place, it does not mean that you need to give up your own. You are pulling up to what is already very good, and, secondly, you can redistribute internal resources elsewhere

Eastern Knowledge: Asian Vector of Education
Our major industrial partner says: “Your guys are great. If you need to make some sort of agreement in Seoul, you go, just what you need. They will order everything you need at a restaurant, they will know the menu by heart. Thank you, but this is not what I need. We need other kinds of guys.” We ask what kind and our partner replies: “I work in biotechnological sphere, I need my specialists to understand how certain interests, including biotechnological ones work, how the legal regulation of transactions is functioning.” We reply that some specialize in biotechnology, others – in jurisprudence, it is impossible to prepare universal specialists. The partner replies: “But I don’t need a universal specialist, I need specialists trained specifically for me...” I think modern oriental studies should be more versatile

Prospects for Global Education in a Post-Pandemic World
We may not yet fully understand the difficulty of the situation we faced – these guys [the ‘pandemic graduates’] are entering the world of work now, they’re going to have to prove to their employers that the two years they spent learning online weren’t wasted. We need to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners from business and industry, and do everything possible to make sure that the work we do next meets all the demands that employers are making on graduates as closely as possible

Prospects for Global Education in a Post-Pandemic World
In my view, this intake of students in the post-pandemic period has been unique. For the first time, over a third of our applicants, those joining as first-year students, are from Western Russia and other countries, i.e., the Far East has become a place that attracts people from all over the country… The ‘turn to the East’ that we’re talking about so much, the work with Asian countries is now reflected in the interests that students show when enrolling at the Far Eastern Federal University and other Far Eastern universities

Your Money And/Or Your Life: The Lack of a Freedom of Choice
Advanced engineering schools are a tool that aims, among other things, to solve environmental and climate problems with the use of advanced engineering technologies, and such a choice will definitely be made. Carbon landfills are a big programme of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which should once again create infrastructure. We need to help kids make the right choice. I think now they are voting more for life. And we, as a university, will do everything by developing both the research potential and simply the function of educating children, and introducing them to real life, so that this choice is in favour of life

Your Money And/Or Your Life: The Lack of a Freedom of Choice
I have one of those kids who plays hockey seven days a week [...] Seeing these daily efforts, I begin to celebrate it and the level of self-determination, both in terms of sports and in terms of things that I honestly couldn’t even imagine as an eight year-old. Kids are different now. They start becoming more self-aware in the world at an earlier age

Your Money And/Or Your Life: The Lack of a Freedom of Choice
You don’t have to give up work to do what you love. I wouldn’t want people in the world to make this choice or for one to interfere with the other. People think about life, but don’t forget that money should not prevent them from doing what they love, but would always be a necessary resource to believe in what you are doing

Anti-Crisis Guidelines: Where Can Personnel Be Found for Import Substitution and a Technological Breakthrough?
The world is changing very rapidly, and in order to change something in the educational programme, as has also been noted, many documents need to be changed. But, in my opinion, the main thing is not the paperwork, not what we declare as changes, but the essence, the improvement of the quality of education that universities have to provide today. [Improving the quality of education – Ed.] is only possible when the university adapts to the needs of the employer, and the employer works closely with the university. It is a two-way street

Anti-Crisis Guidelines: Where Can Personnel Be Found for Import Substitution and a Technological Breakthrough?
Professionalism is an excellent programme. I believe that it will develop and push universities to be more flexible in their work with employers
