Food x Technology
I would say that our dream – my dream – is getting to the time when we will be able to attach a standard canister to a drone, which will then apply a precise amount of fertilizer to a particular crop. That’s because we will then be feeding crops correctly, and the crops will in turn fully consume the nutrients. As a result, people will benefit from having the best possible food

A lot is currently being said about how we are living through the fourth agricultural revolution. <…> In this regard, we are faced with a very clear-cut question – what should be done to feed crops correctly? As producers of fertilizer, we largely give the same food to crops. And, in all likelihood, we are one of the first links in the chain. Of course, there are seeds, and there are plant-protection agents, which are more like medicine if they are the right products. We are about giving more food to crops. That’s because the kind of food we end up with is naturally largely down to what we feed the crops to begin with

We are currently seeing a generational change in rural areas. The older generation – characterized by traditional ways of working, seasonal work in the fields, and agriculturalists making decisions based on intuition (as if sailing with the wind) – is being replaced by youth. These are people who want to do things differently. And in order to get them to stay in rural areas, they need different tools for working in the agricultural sector

My understanding is that rural areas are currently experiencing labour shortages

It is no secret that chemical fertilizers are rather poorly absorbed by crops. It’s exactly the same with people. If a person eats poor-quality food, it will simply clog up their organism and not provide the needed nutrients

Agriculture has traditionally been a rather conservative sector. For a long time, agriculture was based around traditional methods. However, it seems to me that a base effect in agriculture has now accumulated to the point that we will see some genuinely new, breakthrough technologies

The Transformation of Business to Spur Economic Growth
Transformation is done by people. And the question is, what kind of people will make this transformation happen. <...> Transformation of corporate culture is perhaps a priority that stands even higher than the company’s strategy, as it basically sets the tone and sets the horizons for the future

The Transformation of Business to Spur Economic Growth
Digital systems within a company are already a kind of internal regimen. If we look into the future, I think digital channels will advance further when we are completely open in the supply chains, both from the buyers’ and the suppliers’ points of view. <...> So, by and large, further competition will probably take place not in terms of price levels, because we all use certain technological solutions; it will rather be a matter of some kind of empathy between suppliers, between buyers, when we are able to build interaction on a fundamentally different level through digital channels

Given the crucial importance of direct contacts between African heads of state and the Russian leadership, we consider it necessary to intensify the work of all bilateral inter-governmental commissions. During the pandemic, it is necessary to increase the frequency of meetings of the inter-ministerial commissions and visits. I would like to say that we, as a business, are ready to participate in all government programmes and, to a large extent, be an agent of government policy in appropriate activites

Another interesting area we want to develop in Africa is the digitalization of agriculture, various digital platforms that we are already successfully applying in Russia. <...> Digital itself is useless unless it comes with infrastructure and with applicable things. Thus, digital is simply an accelerator for us

250 million people in subequatorial Africa are largely starving. Calorie consumption is half as low as in Europe, with 1,500 calories per day. <...> While the population is expected to grow by 40% in the coming years. We need to figure out how to feed this population

We deliver it through platforms. <…> When a farmer gets the knowledge about what a field needs for a specific crop, he can run the equipment with this app.  <…> We are talking about pinpoint farming, because land is different everywhere. <…> We want to help with logistics, financial banking services and creating an agricultural ecosystem around the farmer

What problems did we face [in Africa, – Ed.]? Above all, it is financing. And colossal infrastructural problems. Fertilizer is a heavy product. It needs to be brought in, packaged, delivered, and so on

Global Food Security: Who Will Feed the Planet’s Growing Population?
Topics like the change in the structure of crop rotation toward more highly nutritious crops, more progressive cultures, gene modification are complex topic for a lengthy conversation. Nevertheless, gene modification allows plants to become more stress-resistant. Optimizing mineral nutrition, i.e. what and in what quantity to should fertilizers be supplied, is an increase in the efficiency of agriculture

Global Food Security: Who Will Feed the Planet’s Growing Population?
What is mineral fertilizers production industry facing today? The picture differs quite a bit. On one hand, in some regions producing certain mineral fertilizers is simply pointless: these are developed regions where the plants are not able to consume more, and if we keep fertilizing, we will cause some environmental damage
