Efficient Energy: Balancing the Economy and the Environment
If tariff restrictions are imposed from above, and in the meantime we are forced to pay unrestricted prices for around 11 million tonnes of coal per year, then we are not talking about investments, on constructing new hydropower plants. We just don’t have the requisite level of reliability

Efficient Energy: Balancing the Economy and the Environment
In terms of setting tariffs, I think it’s inevitable for the market in the Far East. There is no other way. If this is not done, RusHydro’s balance sheet will not be able to sustain such a huge energy system. This is a model based on calculation. That means mathematics, economics – exact sciences which you can argue with, but not with much success

Efficient Energy: Balancing the Economy and the Environment
The Far East’s energy sector is extremely aged. The power plants are old, and the grid is showing extreme signs of age. This is a result of the distances involved, and the fact it is harder to access energy grids in the Far East than anywhere else in the country. The region has a small population density and a small road network. In addition, power lines need to be installed in difficult weather conditions

Efficient Energy: Balancing the Economy and the Environment
Currently, logistics in the Far East are not completely logical. The entire coal industry is privately owned, so when our colleagues do not approach us with regard to procurement procedures, we have no other option. Local coal mines have the option of selling their coal to China for 4–5 times more than we can afford. <...> There have been instances when we have brought in coal for the Far East from Kazakhstan via Murmansk

Hydropower Amidst Global Changes: Current Status, Challenges and Development Trends
We are not developing our hydropower industry. The whole world has put plants on every stream, even on sewers, and reclamation canals are being created. All of it is happening in the face of the complexities of European environmental legislation

Hydropower Amidst Global Changes: Current Status, Challenges and Development Trends
Over the last decade, the whole planet has been actively reducing its CO2 emissions. The main countries with the lowest emissions are Norway, Switzerland, and Canada, all of which prioritize hydropower. We need to note the ability of hydropower to prevent floods. The climate is getting warmer, and floods are becoming a bigger problem. Some areas in the Far East get flooded every year. Nothing but a cascade of reservoirs capable of cutting off flood peaks has been invented by mankind. Hydropower requires protection and support from all sides. It does not have such a powerful private lobby as other industries, but our country needs it

Electric Power Industry in the Far East: Expansion of the Competitive Pricing Zone and Integration with the UES of Russia
We certainly support the market coming to the Far East. The prerequisites now include the fact that about 20% of the united energy system is not really ours, i.e. it belongs to our colleagues, such as SGK, Alrosa, and Gazprom. We are also seeing more connections; we see that the system operator is slowly making its way to the regions where it was not historically present before. We believe that the market will come here

The Electric Power Industry in the Changing Times
Hydro power generation is among the most protected industries in terms of technological sovereignty, because it is a fairly old industry. Hydro power design and research institutes exist and develop to this day. We have preserved all Soviet competencies. We have trusts that are almost 100 years old – they are the hydro power generation trusts. Our major equipment is supply by our long-standing partners, such as Power Machines. These large facilities have their own research and practical cluster and they keep developing. New facilities appear as well
