High Boots and Haute Couture: Linking the Worlds of High Fashion and Folk Crafts
I am deeply convinced that we need to have our equivalents of Gucci and Louis Vuitton. <...> I want our craftspeople to be able to brand their products and preserve their techniques

High Boots and Haute Couture: Linking the Worlds of High Fashion and Folk Crafts
What I want is for a craftsperson based anywhere, be it a major city like Moscow or St. Petersburg, or a small village in the Far East, to have the chance to fulfil their creative potential. And our objective as the government is to create these opportunities. That way, the person can get on with creating, and the state can act as a producer

High Boots and Haute Couture: Linking the Worlds of High Fashion and Folk Crafts
We have drawn up a draft bill. <...> When speaking to craftspeople, they talk about the risks they see with regard to protecting their rights [i.e., copyright – ed.]. <...> For this reason, our draft bill includes a separate section dedicated to protecting the rights of craftspeople, and another one dedicated to self-regulation. <...> Once it enters into force <...> it will be possible to register on an e-commerce platform via a self-regulatory organization, and this will be a major source of support for craftspeople

High Boots and Haute Couture: Linking the Worlds of High Fashion and Folk Crafts
We are trying to explain to our enterprises that if their products are not current, not in demand, and not sold, their techniques will not be preserved. The government cannot forever be compensating production costs if there is no demand on the market for the product in question

High Boots and Haute Couture: Linking the Worlds of High Fashion and Folk Crafts
There is no greater loss to a creative person than the unauthorized use of their work. <...> According to experts, low-quality utilization of intellectual property costs the economy 5% of GDP. But when we all register these rights and employ them in an honest manner, it’s not only the state that benefits, but every single specialist who works in the field

High Boots and Haute Couture: Linking the Worlds of High Fashion and Folk Crafts
We have a lot of sewing techniques. There is lace, and unique embroidery, which differs from region to region. We have a large number of craftspeople in these areas, and it seems to me that we are not making the most of this potential, because all designers want to decorate their products with something unique

Creative Industries for Economic Breakthrough: Regional Experiences
An analysis has shown that about 3% are organized business and individual entrepreneurs, while 97% are self-employed. The Presidential Fund does not accept applications from self-employed people, but many artists actually work from home and make unique, highly artistic products. And young designers can help them in their work for the consumer market. They can help to brand, promote, and sell

Creative Industries for Economic Breakthrough: Regional Experiences
An analysis has shown that in Russia there are about a thousand such territories [where unique folk arts and crafts have been developed, and this is part of the creative industries] and around 300 were territories that don’t have a very comfortable or favourable urban environment. These industries need to be developed so that the personnel are refreshed. We have concluded that measures need to be prioritized to support these territories

Creative Industries for Economic Breakthrough: Regional Experiences
The development of creative industries should stimulate the development of the regions and tourism [...] We want to give these territories [where unique folk arts and crafts are being developed and they are part of creative industries] a separate status, focus various instruments of support, and support these territories. They could be rural areas or cities with a population of up to 10,000–100,000 inhabitants, from which there has recently been a serious outflow of the population

What Will Russia Come up with Next?
Let me give you an example. Natalia Vodyanova got married in a dress decorated with Krestetsky embroidery. It come from a small village, where Catherine II stopped to give her horses water on the way from St. Petersburg to Moscow. What is creative economy? First of all, it means creative activity prevails. Our audience here does not need any explaining. It is high value added. This added value needs to remain in the Russian Federation

Women in the Creative Industries
For a rather high proportion of creative work, certain benefits are needed for people who are employed in this area. First of all, this is allowances for salary. Take IT, the industry adopted these decisions, if you remember, there was the norm in the Tax Code for a discounted rate. Such a solution was found, and, possibly, in other sectors of the creative industries, it is necessary for us to return to this issue and look at it

Women in the Creative Industries
The structure of workforce will change in the near future. [...] Taking into account that we have a new generation [Millennials with new demands], we need the economy to create jobs that will enable these young people to be fulfilled. What are creative industries? This is when the proportion of creative labour in the cost structure of goods or services is considerable and the proportion of added value is high. That’s why the rate of growth is so high

Role of Women Executives in Building Successful Business Models
The first thing that holds a woman back [from career growth] is a sense of fear. We need to fight this. <...> We need to have mentors, role models, who can show girls that there is nothing to be afraid of, that they should go into industry and work. The situation is changing: new working environments and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are providing more opportunities
