Boris Ivanov was born on May 20, 1961, in Moscow, Russia.
In 1983 he graduated with honors from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Department of International Relations.
From 1983 to 1993 he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he changed several positions working on arms control and US Russia relations.
From 1993 to 2000 he occupied the position of Vice President for oil and gas projects at Unibest Bank.
In 2000-2004 Boris Ivanov worked as the First Deputy Director General for Strategy at the Russian Aircraft Corporation MIG.
In February 2004 he became advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board of Gazprombank JSC. He was responsible for developing Gazprom group projects outside Russia.
From April 2007 to January 2011 Boris Ivanov was Managing Director of Gazprom EP International B.V. In January 2011 he left the Gazprom group.
From July 2011 to April 2020 he worked as Managing Director of GPB Global Resources B.V. (the Netherlands).
In 2020 Boris co-founded Emiral Resources Ltd., a new mineral exploration company headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. Since that time, Boris develops the company as a member of the Board.
