Was born in Leningrad in 1960. Graduated from Leningrad Mining Institute with a degree in geophysics. Got his PhD (1986) and Doctor (1989) in Geology. Rank of Professor (1992). 1985-2015 - Principal Research Scientist, P.P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. From 1995 to this day works at the St Petersburg State University in different positions: Head of the Department of Geophysics, Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences, Vice-Rector for Research. Currently the Director of the SPbU Arctic Research Center. Main academic and research interests: geodynamical analysis of oil and gas sedimentary basins of Russia and the world, Arctic geology, marine geology and geophysics, research and educational management. 8 monographs and over 150 scientific articles.
