Dictatorship of Neoliberalism with Russian Fellow Countrymen’s Eyes Abroad
16 June 2022
The anti-Russian campaign launched by the “collective West” leads to a distortion of reality

Many rebukes to our country we hear today are driven by the following narrative: their ‘civilized countries’ face their own problems, but these are the ‘right’ problems, because they are ‘right’ and their system is the ‘right’ one. Our problems and achievements, regardless of what drives them, are not the ‘right’ ones by default. By the same token, we are not the ‘right’ ones. This narrative is applied to pretty much everything. <…> The root cause of this problem is that we co-exist and deal with the partners that live in the reality of crooked mirrors. Whatever they reflect becomes crooked. It is a dangerous thing, because they make us look into crooked mirrors getting us used to a crooked reflection of reality instead of the actual one. This crooked reflection is supposed to build a crooked perception of reality in us. <…> It tells us that the system the West has built is going through a profound crisis — Maria Zakharova, Director, Department of Information and the Press, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Russia has found itself in the situation best described by Ivan Krylov’s fable: ‘You are at fault that I am famished’. The predatorial behaviour of the West means that the West is prepared to violate all of its own norms. As a result, we basically switch places. Before it was the Soviet Union that restricted travel and introduced exit visas. Now it is Russia that supports unrestricted travel, which is only limited by visas. Before the West advertised the free market. Now it is Russia who does that, while facing thousands of sanctions — Dmitriy Kiseliev, General Director, "Rossiya Segodnya" International Information Agency.

Total suppression of everything Russian in western countries shows the actual mindset and attitudes of neoliberalism fans

What is neoliberalism? It’s a religion, a secular faith – a faith without god. A whole country – Ukraine – was trained to worship those idols. ‘A path to Europe’ is a dogma. Yet, there is practically nothing behind it. <…> ‘America stands with us’ is an idol in their mindset, which we need to believe in for some reason. This faith does reject the notion of truth. This is why they hate knowledge so much – knowledge is an attempt to reach the truth. Our current conflict is a religious one. This is what determines the level of hatred and this conflict — Timofei Sergeitsev, Publicist, Journalist.

Neoliberalism is a sort of oxymoron, a marriage of incompatible notions. There is no such thing as liberalism. Neoliberalism is basically a dictatorship. The West is trying to use dictatorial methods to affirm and pursue its interests up to preparing a war, training Ukraine and arming it — Dmitriy Kiseliev, General Director, "Rossiya Segodnya" International Information Agency.

The US applies double standards, unilateral sanctions in the area of human rights and illegitimate pressure on the unwelcome states and their citizens

American leadership and the whole western world are blaming the Russian Federation for violating human rights and the rights of prisoners, but three fingers are pointing at them. I was kidnapped and tortured. It was illegal, without any legal procedures. They ignored all the international norms and did not notify the Russian Federation, when they kidnapped me from the territory of a third country and brought me to the United States. There I was put on trial under a frame-up case and sentenced for 20 years, while they tried to force me to cooperate and commit a perjury. <…> Whenever I called Russian media to tell them what was really happening, I got locked in solitary confinement for a long time… Moreover, western international organizations – the UN, the Red Cross – turn deaf and blind for some reason, when it comes to human rights of a Russian citizen. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, High Commissioner [for Human Rights Tatiana, – Ed.] Moskalkova have sent hundreds – maybe even thousands of documents to international organizations, but they remain unanswered to this day — Konstantin Yaroshenko, Public Figure.

American prisons have a lot of Russians – that was a surprise for me. However, not all of them are Russian citizens. Latvians, Poles, Romanians, Bulgarians – all those who say they hate Russia here, identify themselves as Russians in American prisons. They want to be a part of something bigger and stronger – something they understand — Oleg Nikitin, Entrepreneur.

Russian citizens and their compatriots face unprecedented discrimination in some of the western countries

I was the head of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in the US in 2018–2021. <...> This is an informal organization. It helps compatriots in the US and is mainly involved in preserving cultural and historical legacy of Russian Americans and Russia in the United States and promoting the Russian language. <…> Such organizations are encouraged by the US government, because – as the government puts it – they are the foundation for the state, for the country, for the civil society and the democratic society. However, it is the Russian community that gets a totally different treatment. It faced oppression, bad treatment and even criminal prosecution. <…> We know at least 3 thousand of our compatriots in the United States, who were questioned over the past year. It means they would come to their homes at six in the morning to ‘talk’. <…> This is an unprecedented campaign that targeted our compatriots — Elena Branson, Chair of the Russian Community Council of the USA 2018-2021; Founder of “Together with Russia” Public Organization.

What has been happening over the past several months is unprecedented. Now they think they can do whatever they want. This game has no rules. They think they can settle personal scores among other things… Before they used to say: ‘We have nothing against your work. In terms of politics, we have nothing against your content – all our claims are of economic and sanction-related nature. Now they do not even bother to hide it — Marat Kasem, Chief Editor, Sputnik Lithuania.

Russia needs to create a public organization to help compatriots facing oppression abroad

We need to start a public organization that would be comprised of the compatriots that Russia supported and that stayed here so that we could protect those to remain out there. I believe that protecting our compatriots is among our priority tasks. Our compatriots living abroad are not just people who are in need of help. They can help Russia, while being outside of it — Aleksey Esakov, Human Rights Activist.

We do not leave our people behind indeed. Stories may be different, and we do not have a magic wand. But this is a meticulous and hard work that takes government institutions and personal involvement of each public official, activist and journalist that need to combine their efforts. But the ‘no man left behind’ principle works — Maria Zakharova, Director, Department of Information and the Press, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
