Healthcare in the Arctic: Two Years’ Progress and New Objectives
9 April 2019
16:30—18:00

Russia’s Arctic regions play a vital role in achieving the goal of increasing the nation’s life expectancy to 78 years by 2024. The development of the Northern Sea Route presents a new challenge — how can these coastal regions be made more attractive for new workers and their families? Vital to the success of these objectives, just like in other federal subjects, is access to high-quality medical care, preventative health programmes, increasing prosperity, and teamwork. However, these objectives will need to be achieved in the more difficult conditions of the Arctic and faster than in the regions located below the 60th parallel. What successes have Russia’s Arctic regions seen in the last two years? How has the problem of insufficient medical staff in Arctic territories been addressed in Russia and abroad? What have been the successes and problems related to the integration of telemedicine technology in the Arctic? What unique issues does patient routing in the Northern territories face? How can we foster teamwork in addressing public healthcare issues on a regional and municipal level? What are the priority scientific and research plans for improving the healthcare in the Arctic?
