Zabaikalye development discussed in Moscow

Anton Kobyakov and Alexander Osipov discussed the prospects for the development of the Zabaikalye Territory and opportunities for cooperation in implementing economic and investment projects.

Anton Kobyakov welcomed comprehensive changes in the region and stressed that the development of Zabaikalye is a strategically important task. «It is necessary to promote the Zabaikalye Territory as an investment-attractive region. Consolidation of joint work by federal and regional authorities, as well as development institutions to attract investors and implement comprehensive development programmes will help bring new projects to the region,» said Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum.

The meeting covered such topics as improving region’s attractivity, opening production facilities, initiating new projects aimed at solving social issues, and presenting projects that have already been implemented during the next Eastern Economic Forum.

Alexander Osipov, head of Zabaikalye Territory, noted that during the first half of 2020, the region showed the best investment inflow dynamics in the Far Eastern Federal District and moved up 30 positions in the National Investment Climate Rating. In the first nine months of 2020 (the annual figures are still being updated by the statistics authorities) investment grew 35 percent compared to the previous year — and all that in the severe constraints of the pandemic.

«In 2021, we intend to maintain the momentum and continue effective interaction with development institutions. We are committed to helping our investors in implementing their projects. The emphasis will be made on providing the infrastructure. Serious attention will be paid to such a format as industrial parks,» said Alexander Osipov. He also underlined that in addition to traditional industries, the region’s economic development prospects are seen in the creation of enterprises for deep minerals processing, agricultural products, timber, development of high-tech sector enterprises, and others.

«At the end of last year, new decisions were made at the federal level to support the Far Eastern regions. We have to put them into practice, including in crop production, which, along with the traditional livestock industry, is already becoming one of the important areas of economic development,» said Alexander Osipov.
