After Valdai Club Session Vladimir Putin Stops by Coffee Shop in Olympic Park to Talk to WFYS Participants

On Thursday, after a Valdai club session Vladimir Putin unexpectedly stopped by a coffee shop in Sochi Olympic Park, a place frequented by participants of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students. Russia’s President entered the coffee shop, when its young visitors were dancing to the guitar. Putin’s appearance was met with a round of applause.

Vladimir Putin asked youngsters whether they enjoyed the Festival and found it comfortable. But this was not the end of the talk. Young participants of the Festival started asking questions about Russia’s foreign policy and cooperation with other countries. This impromptu meeting involved people from a number places – Serbia, Brazil, Croatia, Mozambique and others. A student from Brazil urged Russian President to continue and even enhance cooperation within BRICS.

Vladimir Putin responded to this request: “I’m on my way from the so called Valdai club. It brings in experts in international affairs. And I received the same question there. I can tell you that your level is comparable to that of global politics experts. They are also worried about BRICS and ask for support. And that’s exactly what we are going to do”.

At the same time, Russian President expressed his hope that guests of the Festival would return to Russia and noted: “We were hoping that young people from all over the world would come here. They will talk to each other and set a direct contact. Eventually they will leave, but they’ll keep their memories that their contacts started here. And they will remember Russia as a good place”.

In their turn, students invited Mr. Putin to the Festival’s Closing Ceremony.
