One of the objectives of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students is help young people discover leadership qualities and develop them. Leadership of the Future talk show on Thursday told WFYS participants what a leader is and what anyone could do to become successful
Sergei Nolikov, Chief of the Presidential Directorate for Social Projects, started the show: “Different leaders have different roles. There’s several types of leaders. Those who have a vision of the future and steer the way. Leaders, who roll up their sleeves and get it done. Of course, there’s another type – couch ones. They are opinion leaders that are stuck in social networks building public opinion”.
“One can become a leader only if he or she does what he or she loves or enjoys”, added Chiara Cocchiara, systems operations engineer at EUMETSAT. And she was supported by Ndaba Mandela, politician and founder of Africa Rising Foundation: «A leader must understand what he or she wants to convey to people. This is a crucial part of leadership. We always strive to improve something we love. That’s why it’s so important to like what you do. Short and sweet, leadership takes three things – passion, a couch and desire to develop”.
A leader’s main objective is to bring his or her team to the goal. But performance becomes impossible is team members are not comfortable. Founder of Yogacycled Oksana Solomakha outlined a set of rules for a happy team: “I travel a lot, and I speak several foreign languages. I tried thinking what made people from different countries happy. And one can point out a handful from each culture. Chinese and Japanese cultures tech self-respect and respect for other people. French and Swiss ones value efficiency and commitment. Russian culture treasures family ties. And those ties are vital”.
Nobody knows what will happen next. But the only thing that unites people from all over the world is their desire to be happy. Experts summed it up by saying new leaders, who appear just now, will help us this this quest.
