The Roscongress Foundation is a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of international conventions; exhibitions; and business, public, sporting, and cultural events. It was established in pursuance of a decision by the President of the Russian Federation.

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of facilitating the development of Russia’s economic potential, promoting its national interests, and strengthening the country’s image. One of the roles of the Foundation is to comprehensively evaluate, analyse, and cover issues on the Russian and global economic agendas. It also offers administrative services, provides promotional support for business projects and attracting investment, and helps foster social entrepreneurship and charitable initiatives.

Each year, the Foundation’s events draw participants from 208 countries and territories, with more than 15,000 media representatives working on-site at Roscongress’ various venues. The Foundation benefits from analytical and professional expertise provided by 5000 people working in Russia and abroad. In addition, it works in close cooperation with 160 economic partners; industrialists’ and entrepreneurs’ unions; and financial, trade, and business associations from 75 countries worldwide.

Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group to meet in Moscow

The Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) of the Arctic Council will meet from 26–28 October 2021 in Moscow to discuss projects and the future work plan of the SDWG. All activities during the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council are managed by the Roscongress Foundation.

Participants will discuss the progress of ongoing projects as well as proposals for new ones. Issues include increasing the resilience of the Arctic ecosystem, preservation of Arctic architectural heritage, assessment of the COVID-19 situation in the Arctic and its impact on public health, digitalization of the linguistic and cultural heritage of Arctic indigenous peoples, development of an Arctic food innovation cluster, remote energy systems, use of hydrogen energy in the Arctic, solid waste management in Arctic communities, pre-school and school education, gender equality, shipping, as well as a project for an international mammoth centre in Yakutia.

This is the second meeting of the Sustainable Development Working Group during the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023. The SDWG session will traditionally bring together representatives of the Arctic Council member countries (Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the USA) and observer organizations: Arctic Athabaskan Council, Aleut International Association, Gwich’in Council International, Inuit Circumpolar Council, Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Russian Far East.
