Accommodation for participants of the SCO Heads of State Council session and the BRICS summit in Chelyabinsk in 2020 was discussed during a meeting in Moscow. The meeting was chaired by Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for the Preparation and Support of Russia’s Presidency at SCO in 2019–2020 and BRICS in 2020. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the federal government, Chelyabinsk Region government, and the Roscongress Foundation that are involved in the preparation of the summits.

“Today we have discussed the arrangements for providing delegates of different categories with hotel accommodation together with the Government of Chelyabinsk Region. We will require at least 17,000 rooms to accommodate all visitors and participants. We are going to use hotels, hostels, dormitories and sanatoriums that meet the comfort criteria, as well as blocks of flats,” says Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and support of Russia’s Presidency at SCO in 2019-2020 and BRICS in 2020.

The South Ural State University dormitory is expected to be completed by April 2020. Structural repair of the dormitory at Ural State University of Physical Culture is being considered.

According to the Chelyabinsk Region authorities, the construction of all three cottage estates intended for accommodating foreign delegations – Terema, Khrustalny, and Bely Khutor – is on schedule. Chelyabinsk Region has a lot of comprehensive work to do to ensure the appropriate level of service.

Besides, Chelyabinsk Region authorities said that a roadmap of preparations for the summits includes construction of a new modern airport, public transport modernization, and renovation of both the road network and the Taganay 2020 Convention and Exhibition Centre.
