Russia
and the Republic of Korea to Hold Joint Business Events in 2020
The
Roscongress Foundation held an online meeting with Vice President for
International Relations at the Korean International Trade Association (KITA) Jo
Hakhee.
The
meeting concerned the organization of joint RussiaSouth Korea online events
dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
between the two countries. Potential event formats include bilateral online
meetings between companies from both countries, webinars on the results and
future of 30 years of cooperation between the two countries, prospective areas
of cooperation between Russia and the Republic of Korea, and population and
business support measures in South Korea during the pandemic.
Also
discussed were joint efforts in holding major multilateral business events both
on and off-line. As in previous years, KITA expressed the desire to serve as a
partner in organizing the RussiaRepublic of Korea business dialogue as part of
the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in 2020.
Moreover,
the parties discussed potential partnerships as part of the International Forum
for Northern Economic Cooperation, which will be held in South Korea. The event
was organized as part of the New Northern Policy, which was established in 2017
by the administration of President Moon Jae-In to strengthen economic
cooperation between South Korea and Russia, former Soviet countries, Mongolia,
and northeastern Chinese provinces.
The Roscongress Foundation and KITA have actively been cooperating since
2016, partnering in the organization of events such as the
RussianKorea Business Dialogue as part of EEF (in 2016, 2018, and 2019), the
session RussiaRepublic of Korea: Expanding Economic Cooperation within the
Framework of Greater Eurasia (3 July 2017, Seoul), the business event Doing
Business in Russia: Regional Opportunities for Korean Business (25 October
2017, Seoul), and the RussiaKorea Business Forum as a part of President of the
Republic of Korea Moon Jae-ins visit to the Russian Federation (22 June 2018,
Moscow). The organizations signed a cooperation agreement in 2018.
The Roscongress Foundation is a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of nationwide and international conventions; exhibitions; and business, public, youth, sporting, and cultural events. It was established in pursuance of a decision by the President of the Russian Federation.
The Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of facilitating the development of Russia’s economic potential, promoting its national interests, and strengthening the country’s image. One of the roles of the Foundation is to comprehensively evaluate, analyse, and cover issues on the Russian and global economic agendas. It also offers administrative services, provides promotional support for business projects and attracting investment, helps foster social entrepreneurship and charitable initiatives.
Each year, the Foundation’s events draw participants from 208 countries and territories, with more than 15,000 media representatives working on-site at Roscongress’ various venues. The Foundation benefits from analytical and professional expertise provided by 5,000 people working in Russia and abroad.
The Foundation works alongside various UN departments and other international organizations, and is building multi-format cooperation with 173 economic partners, including industrialists’ and entrepreneurs’ unions, financial, trade, and business associations from 78 countries worldwide, and 179 Russian public organizations, federal and legislative agencies, and federal subjects.
