Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will head Japan’s delegation to the 3rd Eastern Economic Forum, said Toyohisa Kozuki, Japan’s Ambassador to Russia, at a Moscow meeting with Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.
The parties discussed in detail the issues of the collaboration between the two countries’ representatives at the biggest international economic forums held in Russia in 2017 and 2018. Russia and Japan are stepping up cooperation at various international multilateral events and Mr. Toyohisa Kozuki spoke about Japan’s intention to bring a bigger delegation to EEF 2017.
The parties considered the possibilities of holding events of the Russia-Japan Association of Higher Education Institutions on the eve of the main programme of EEF 2017. The agreement to establish the Russia-Japan Association of Higher Education Institutions was signed in December 2016 by Moscow State University and Tohoku University.
The parties focused particularly on the Jigorō Kanō international judo tournament among juniors up to 21 years, to be held, for the first time, under the patronage of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Vladivostok on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum 2017. The tournament will be staged as part of the Forum’s cultural and sports programme and will be dedicated to the centennial of the first Russia-Japan international judo match held in Vladivostok in 1917. Pursuant to a Russian Presidential Decision, this tournament will be held annually.
The parties also considered the events of the next Russia-Japan Cross Year and Japan’s consequent broader participation in St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018.
Summarising the results, Anton Kobyakov emphasized the importance of bilateral collaboration and expressed hope that Japan would continue to participate actively in various multilateral events held in Russia. He believes that such communication platforms provide favourable conditions for establishing and developing business ties, for specific discussions of topical cooperation issues in a wide range of sectors.
