World Energy Congress to Be Held in St. Petersburg on 24–27 October 2022

The Organizing Committee in charge of preparing for and holding the 25th World Energy Congress in St. Petersburg in 2022 held its first meeting in Moscow. The meeting was chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak and attended by Advisor to the Russian President and Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov, Russian Minister of Energy and Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee Alexander Novak, World Energy Council Russian National Committee Executive Director Andrey Logatkin as well as representatives of ministries and agencies that are responsible for preparing for the event.

The key topics discussed at the meeting included organizational issues related to preparations for the Congress, the content of the business programme, interaction between the World Energy Council and its Russian National Committee, and preparations of St. Petersburg’s infrastructure for the event.

«At the first meeting, the Organizing Committee approved the dates of the Congress for 24–27 October 2022 and ExpoForum as the venue. The event will be organized by the Roscongress Foundation. An action plan was also approved on preparations for and holding the 25th World Energy Congress, and working groups were formed», Kozak said.

«We have already begun cooperation with the World Energy Council. The World Energy Council, the Russian National Committee of the World Energy Council, and the Roscongress Foundation signed a tripartite agreement during the SPIEF 2019 concerning the organization of the Congress and the meeting of the Executive Assembly. The Congress is an event with a long history. It has been held every three years since 1923, and we expect the Russian Organizing Committee to work out all issues related to preparation in advance», Kobyakov said.

In addition, Novak informed the Organizing Committee during the meeting that the upcoming 24th World Energy Congress (Abu Dhabi, 9–12 September 2019) will officially hand over the right to host the Congress to the Russian Federation. He also noted the extensive business programme of the Congress, which will include representatives of Russian companies and departments.

«The business part of the Congress is expected to feature an exchange of views between world energy leaders on the complex challenges and opportunities posed by the energy of the future, the role of oil and gas in the changing global energy balance and the global forecast for the hydrocarbon economy. Russian companies will take part in panel discussions on nuclear energy, sustainable energy as well as gas and unconventional hydrocarbons», Novak said.

The World Energy Congress brings together more than 4,000 professionals from various sectors of the energy industry, including ministers and officials from specialized agencies, the CEOs of private energy companies, industry experts, young professionals from the energy sector, scientists, and representatives of civil society.

The Congress traditionally hosts a specialized exhibition featuring energy companies, architectural, engineering, construction, coal mining, and equipment manufacturing companies, contractors, financial institutions, investors, consultants, analysts, oil, gas and energy companies, professional unions, industry associations, and the media.
