The Russian Energy Week International Forum will be held on 25 October 2019 in the Central Exhibition Hall Manege. Representatives of Rosatom State Corporation will join international experts in a plenary session discussing the role of nuclear technology in achieving sustainable development goals.
On 2 October, as part of the plenary session Nuclear Energy as an Integral Element of the Sustainable Future Agenda, experts will discuss the key effects and benefits of nuclear technologies, their effect on peoples lives, and the primary barriers in the way of the development of the modern nuclear energy sector.
The meeting will also consider the effects of nuclear energy on climate change. Chief Executive Officer of the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Alexey Likhachev believes that accelerating the construction and launch of modern nuclear power plants will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. «First of all, we need to accelerate the launch of new, modern NPPs. The cumulative effect here is obvious. It means the creation of new cities, construction of roads and other social infrastructure, the creation of new jobs, an increase in tax revenue, and a reduction in CO2 emissions,» said Likhachev. "As such, we welcome the significant decision of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to include nuclear energy in their scenarios to limit overall rises in temperature.
