Recap of the ‘Russia – Country of Sports’ Road Tour: Nine Olympic Champions and Eight Bastions of Russian Sports

Two-time Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion Roman Vlasov hosted the final stages of the road tour dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the ‘Russia – Country of Sports’ International Forum. Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin met with Vlasov at the Forum venue in Kemerovo.

“Over eight days, nine Olympic champions visited eight bastions of Russian sports on the road from Moscow to Kemerovo. Our illustrious athletes showed off iconic facilities, brand-new sports complexes, and home training centres, held master classes, and met with schoolchildren. I want to thank the Roscongress Foundation for organizing this project. The road tour showed once again that the Ministry of Sports, the athletes of the Russian national teams, and the regions are a single team. Together we can overcome any challenges facing Russian sports,” Matytsin said.

In Kemerovo, Vlasov took part in a tree planting ceremony at Olympic Glory Park and other Forum events. The day before, the famous wrestler hosted a stage of the road tour in Novosibirsk, which focused on sports as a social lift and the strength of traditions.

Vlasov met with schoolchildren and also held a master class at his native Dynamo hall, where the legendary Viktor Kuznetsov trained three-time Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion Alexander Karelin and years later worked with Vlasov.

“Today, you are on the right team and in the right place. You are surrounded by friends who are also pursuing the right goals. Wrestling teaches us not only to win, but also to live, endure difficulties, and take responsibility. And most importantly, it teaches us to love our Russia. Today, it is especially important to love your country, rally around it, and do everything for it to flourish,” Vlasov told the young wrestlers.

Report about the stage in Novosibirsk

The road tour travelled from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod to Kazan to Ufa to Chelyabinsk to Omsk to Novosibirsk. It was organized by the Russian Ministry of Sports and RC Sport, the sports platform of the Roscongress Foundation.

During the first stage, the prominent synchronized swimmer showed how the leaders of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team, multiple world champions Dina and Arina Averina, and 2022 Spartakiad champion Lada Kramarenko, train at Novogorsk.

Tokyo 2020 artistic gymnastics champion Lilia Akhaimova and Olympic Games participant and basketball player Victor Keyru visited Nizhny Novgorod. Olympic cross-country skiing champion Alexander Legkov hosted the stages in Kazan and Ufa, where he was joined by Olympic volleyball champion Maxim Mikhailov and Tokyo 2020 champions Nikita Nagorny, Artur Dalaloyan (both artistic gymnastics), and Adelina Zagidullina (fencing). Olympic medallist Olga Fatkulina showed off a skating cluster in Chelyabinsk, and two-time Olympic sports shooting champion Vitalina Batsarashkina served as the tour guide for the sports facilities of Omsk.
