On 27-28 May 2021, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation will co-organize the 9th Nevsky International Ecological Congress «Ecology of the Planet: Sustainable Development» in the Tavricheskiy Palace, St. Petersburg. The Congress will focus on the issues of national strategies and projects associated with ecology and environmental protection, environmentally responsible behavior, developing «green economy», sustainable practices of production and consumption, and healthy lifestyles.
The Organizing Committee of the Congress is presided by Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and Viktoria Abramchenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
The platform of the Congress is an effective tool for discussing the key issues of environmental protection and management, and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation in harmonization of environmental laws.
The programme for the 9th Nevsky International Ecological Congress will include a plenary session and nine roundtables. These will focus on the development of national projects, protecting natural resources and biodiversity, climate policy, green energy, eco-awareness, and the sustainable development of waterbodies. Environmental safety will form a key theme of the Congress.
The upcoming Congress is set to cover a substantial agenda. Discussions will centre around five priority projects, as well as steps to protect the environment and climate. These are all aspects which form part of the Russian Federations new Socioeconomic Development Strategy to 2030, and which have been developed following the achievement of the national target to create a comfortable and safe living environment.
Other topics will include increasing companies environmental responsibility, as well as improving environmental safety overall.
The event will also include a number of eco-initiatives and a hackathon.
