In November 2017, the 25th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting took place in Da Nang (Vietnam), an event driven in part by the earlier Women and the Economy Forum. As a result, the Fourth Industrial Revolutions influence on womens participation in economic development is a topic which has come to the fore. APEC leaders have spoken out in favour of public and private initiatives aimed at increasing the role played by women in the economy and improving their access to finance, assets, and markets. How is work progressing in this regard? How can the opportunities offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution be better exploited so that the female population of the APEC nations can more quickly benefit from the positive transformations in the labour market which are currently under way? How can their participation in lucrative and fast-growing economic sectors be increased, and how can international cooperation be broadened?
Topics for discussion:
What challenges and risks does the fourth industrial revolution pose to todays society?
Can we expect an accelerated pace of change in broadening womens economic rights and opportunities in the era of the fourth industrial revolution?
How has the fourth industrial revolution affected young peoples career choices?
The APEC womens agenda for 20192020.
