The St. Petersburg Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly was the largest in the Assemblys history. Upwards of 2,500 participants, over 160 delegations (more than half of which were headed by parliamentary speakers), and more than 400 journalists attended the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly held in Russias Northern Capital from 14 to 18 October 2017.
The St. Petersburg Assembly saw the election of the new President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Gabriela Cuevas Barron. Moreover, new members were accepted into the IPU: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, and the Marshall Islands, which brings the total number of IPU member-states to 177.
The next meeting will take place in 2018 in Geneva.
