Vostok Fashion Day: beauty is never too much

In the middle of December in the very heart of Moscow on the New Arbat at the unusual art venue of Hyundai Motorstudio, designers from the Far East showed off their collections as part of Vostok Fashion Day. The event, which was organized by the Roscongress Foundation, coincides with ‘Days of the Far East in Moscow’. This show was first held in September 2019 at the 5th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

Some of the most successful designers from Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and Amur Region shared their artistic flair with party goers, including: Svetlana Nikonova, Yulia Vorotnikova, Irina Akulina, Elena Rudermel, Anastasia Shakleina, Denis Burlakov, Tatiana Vasilyeva and Svetlana Cheremnykh.

Svetlana Nikonova had the honour of opening the event with her ‘Lace’ collection. Her exquisite outfits had already been seen at the likes of Beijing Fashion Week, festivals in Italy, Spain, Austria, and the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. In Moscow, young models from the Igor Sarukhanov Creative Centre took to the podium.

Igor Sarukhanov was keen to talk to guests.

There were lots of ethnic motifs and national ornaments, but all musicians were upstaged by the harp and shamanic tambourine! Guests were treated to something that they probably hadn’t heard before: traditional throat singing performed by the Far Eastern people and accompanied by a DJ set.

There was a chance to enter a prize draw. The lucky winners are off to see the spectacular Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka and a tourism festival in one of the coldest places on earth: the Yakutsk settlement of Omyakon.

Visitors liked the exhibition entitled ‘Women in contemporary paintings by artists of the Far Eastern Federal District. Madonnas of the Far East’ just as much as the elegant dresses. Again, artists draw on their native nature for inspiration. What do you make of ‘Portrait with flounder’, for instance?!

Here’s some first-hand impressions, taken from the Instagram pages of the participants. «Thanks to Roscongress, we Far Eastern designers were able to acquaint party guests with our signature couture designs».

«The event was truly beautiful, high-quality and brought the colours of the East. And the wonderful little ladies were all professional and charming».

«A high-level event!»

«It was an unforgettable journey! Lots to take in and indescribable emotions. It was cool!»

«Thank you for letting me be part of Russia’s most interesting event.»
